FREE SATURDAY WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS* Meditative Mindfulness for the Classroom Teacher Instructor: Lisa Oxley Saturday, March 18, 2017 :: 9:30am - 4:30pm :: Cost: $99* :: .5 CEU :: Reg# 15497 :: XAED100 Meditative Mindfulness is the practice of relaxing and becoming familiar with one's own mind. By bringing attention to one's internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment, meditative mindfulness trains the mind in stability, clarity and strength, and nurtures natural mindfulness and awareness. Current research in neuroscience has demonstrated that this practice can sharpen perception, creativity, and intuition, as well as increase attention and nonjudgmental awareness. In this workshop, educators explore this practice and how to incorporate it into the classroom. Participants learn through guided instruction, practice periods, group discussions, hands-on experiential exercises, and working collaboratively in pairs and groups. Topics covered include becoming familiar with the mind and being present, how to influence one's ability to listen and communicate directly, how to work with stress and appreciate our world, and the practice of mindfulness movement - "walking meditation." Meditative Mindfulness can be of great benefit to teachers and students alike in helping students focus, especially during testing times when stress levels are high. The turnout was great!
At the board meeting about 20 teachers spoke - five of them from Gab. Gab teachers spoke on the class size ratio being changed, the science TOSA being eliminated and alternative arts programs at the elementary schools. Many other teachers spoke on the elimination of intervention teachers, declining enrollment numbers that we are feel are wrong, and the costly MIE program (about $2000 per kid!) All in all, it was a successful meeting and I felt like we were heard. In the end, the board agreed to cross of eliminating 4 elementary teachers and revisiting the budget for the MIE program. As always, if you have any SGTA concerns, please see Chanda or me. -- Terri ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Message (2/23/17) Tuesday Board Meeting and Shaky's Hello SGTA, Please join your fellow teachers at Shakey's on Tuesday, February 28th for an open discussion about the use of LCAP funds at your respective sites for the 2017-2018 school year.
