In the event you sustain an injury or illness related to your employment, you may be treated for such injury or illness by your personal medical doctor (M.D.), doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) or medical group. SGTA, Attached is a great opportunity to find out about the Loan Forgiveness Program. Thank you, Dena Dragoo President, SGTA Hello SGTA,
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer. As we approach the beginning of the school year, your SGTA negotiations team will need your support as they return to the bargaining table on September 7th. Please do the following to show your solidarity:
SGTA’s current proposal includes the following: July 1, 2016 – 2% on-schedule increase and a salary adjustment to the current salary schedule July 1, 2017 – Continue bargaining in Fall 2017 On Friday May 26th, the District presented a counter proposal to SGTA’s offer as follows: July 1, 2016 – 1% on-schedule increase July 1, 2017 – 2% on-schedule increase It is important to note that this proposal comes on the heels of the Governor’s May Revise Budget which directed $3.2 billion more in Proposition 98 (K-14) funding for 2017-18 than in 2016-17. The new budget proposal provides 44% gap funding in 2017-18 up from 23.67% in January. The new proposal also increases the COLA from 1.48% to 1.56% for 2017-18. SGTA anticipates these adjustments to equate to approximately $575K more in LCFF revenue for 2017-18 than earlier projected and an increase of close to $1.1 million in LCFF revenue over 2016-17. Thank you for your time, Dena Dragoo President Hello All SGTA,
Three areas that have gone unfilled in our union are the Human Rights Contact Person, Women's Issues Contact Person and the LGBTQ Contact Person. SGTA is looking for 3 members who would like to be our representatives in these vital roles. Duties would include attending one or both of the conferences below, reporting back current information to SGTA and possibly helping to organize events that pertain to these issues. All conference expenses will be paid. Please email me if you are interested being our SGTA contact person.

Happy Summer -- Terri ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dena Dragoo Date: Fri, Jun 23, 2017 at 9:12 AM Subject: Fw: Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources Good Morning Everyone, I just got off the phone with Dr. Pappalardo and had a lengthy conversation with him about the appointment of Yolanda Mendoza as the new Asst Supt of HR. He reassured me that this appointment will be for one year only and she is highly qualified. He promises to hold interviews in February to find a qualified candidate for the following year. She is near retirement and is really coming in as a favor to him. He asked me to share his email below with Exec Board and Rep Council to help understand the reasoning behind this quick appointment. Please take a moment to read his email. Thanks, Dena ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: John Pappalardo Sent: Friday, June 23, 2017 8:52:40 AM To: Dena Dragoo; Dena Dragoo; Francis Polifroni; Francois Polifroni Subject: Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources Dear Dena and Francois, I wanted to reach out to you two this morning and let you know what is happening in Human Resources. As you are aware, Anna Molinar on June 19 announced she would be leaving San Gabriel on July 1 to take the Assistant Superintendent position in Garvey School District. This did not leave much time for the normal process to fill this vacancy. I have reached out to people that I know and trust to look at various options. I am happy to report that Yolanda Mendoza has agreed to fill in this position effective July 1 for one year. This one-year interim assignment benefits the District in a number of ways. This will allow us to finish hiring and recruiting immediately, and to cover the summer time work to get ready for a successful opening of school in August. Additionally, this will allow us to recruit for a new head of human resources in the early spring to maximize our pool of applicants. Yolanda comes to us with over 20 years of Chief Human Resources experience. I worked with Yolanda for over 4.5 years in Pasadena Unified. She is a seasoned professional, knowledgeable in all aspects of the position, and truly a joy to work with. I have attached her resume for your review. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. Thank you, John John W. Pappalardo, Ed.D. Superintendent SGTA Bargaining Update
June 1, 2017 SGTA met with the SGUSD Bargaining Team for negotiations on Tuesday May 23rd. While the parties were previously scheduled to meet on May 3rd, the District cancelled this session explaining they needed more time to work on their responses to SGTA’s proposals. Despite repeated requests by the SGTA team throughout the day for SGUSD’s salary proposal, the District did not offer a counter salary proposal until close to 4pm. While the parties did make progress on open language issues mostly pertaining to special education meetings, professional development, and preparation time, SGTA had hoped more time would have been allotted for salary negotiations. In an effort to reach settlement, SGTA offered a counter proposal meant to resolve 2016/17 reopener negotiations and continue negotiations for 2017/18 salary and retiree medical benefits. Previously, SGTA had proposed closing both 2016/17 and 2017/18 reopeners. We did not accept or deny their offer. We will meet in fall to continue negotiations and hopefully improve their offer. During the summer, SGTA will be preparing our plans to support bargaining and a fair contract for all members for the start of the school year. SGTA would like to thank our Negotiations Team Members, Francois Polifroni, Chanda Strom, Alex Edwards, Tony Phong, Carol Thompson, and our CTA Staff Person, Tom Pinkava, for their unwavering commitment to our bargaining unit. They have given of their personal time to plan, fact find, listen to everyone's concerns about salary and health care and contractual issues. Thank you team! As your president, I hope that you all have a well deserved summer break and "Thank You" to all SGTA for always giving 100% to the students of San Gabriel Unified. See you in August. Dena Dragoo President, SGTA |
