I just got off the phone with Dr. Pappalardo and had a lengthy conversation with him about the appointment of Yolanda Mendoza as the new Asst Supt of HR.  He reassured me that this appointment will be for one year only and she is highly qualified. He promises to hold interviews in February to find a qualified candidate for the following year. She is near retirement and is really coming in as a favor to him. 
He asked me to share his email below with Exec Board and Rep Council to help understand the reasoning behind this quick appointment.

 Dear Dena and Francois,

I wanted to reach out to you two this morning and let you know what is happening in Human Resources.

As you are aware, Anna Molinar on June 19 announced she would be leaving San Gabriel on July 1 to take the Assistant Superintendent position in Garvey School District.

This did not leave much time for the normal process to fill this vacancy.  I have reached out to people that I know and trust to look at various options. 

I am happy to report that Yolanda Mendoza has agreed to fill in this position effective July 1 for one year.  This one-year interim assignment benefits the District in a number of ways.  This will allow us to finish hiring and recruiting immediately, and to cover the summer time work to get ready for a successful opening of school in August.  Additionally, this will allow us to recruit for a new head of human resources in the early spring to maximize our pool of applicants.

Yolanda comes to us with over 20 years of Chief Human Resources experience.  I worked with Yolanda for over 4.5 years in Pasadena Unified.  She is a seasoned professional, knowledgeable in all aspects of the position, and truly a joy to work with.  I have attached her resume for your review.
